Emma Keeler places second at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
Emma Keeler won second place in the microbiology division at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May 2019 against 71 competitors. This science fair, held in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania is considered one of the largest pre-college science and engineering fairs in the world.
Emma qualified for this event by placing first in the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair.
Her project, titled "Bioprospecting for Benthic Fungi and Their Bactericidal Antibiotics" studied species found near ocean vents and their ability to fight pathogens.
